Collection: GPON

GPON full form is Gigabit Passive Optical Network. It is increasingly being used in FTTH and FTTP networks to deliver voice, data and video services at gigabit speed.

GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is a type of fibre-optic network used to provide high-speed internet, voice, and video services. This type of network consists of two main device types: the OLT (Optical Line Terminal), which is deployed at the provider premises, and the ONT (Optical Network Terminal), which is deployed at the customer's location. Using passive optical splitters, a single optical fibre cable can transmit data at high speeds to multiple users over long distances.

In contrast to ADSL technology, which deteriorates heavily as the distance between the central office and customer premises increases, GPON allows consistently high-speed internet to reach all premises within the maximum range of a fibre central office (usually around 16-20km).
